Bryn Hargreaves revealed the Bulls’ meltdown had left several players sick with worry after a week of huge uncertainty at the crisis-torn club.

The Bulls players could be paid their wages this month should the Rugby Football League agree to advance the club money from the Sky TV deal.

Yet Hargreaves is deeply concerned for the future as the Bulls prepare for Sunday’s home clash with London Broncos, although administrator Brendan Guilfoyle has announced an extension of the deadline to find a buyer for the club until next Tuesday.

The prop, who has declared himself fit for this weekend after missing the Wigan victory with a calf strain, said: “We’ve been kept in the dark and not told anything. We just deal with what’s put in front of us, which is not very much at the minute.

“When it’s all up in the air it’s a horrible feeling. We’ve had some players feeling sick and really nervy.

“It’s their future, their livelihood, and they’ve got bills to pay. We’re not footballers, we don’t have money tucked away.

“You go home and sit and worry and hope for the best. That’s all you can do.

“We’ve just had some information from the RFL about phoning our banks to tell them we might not be paying some bills. It’s pretty stark but that’s the bleak reality.

“You don’t think you’ll be in a position where you walk into work to be told you don’t have a job any longer. How wrong I was because that’s the reality of the situation we’re faced with.”

Guilfoyle made 15 people redundant on Monday and Hargreaves says the players fear the same fate.

“That’s the reality of the situation,” he said. “If he hasn’t got money to pay us, then he’s got to do something about it.

“That’s 100 per cent reality. When he had a chat with the players, he said ‘you’ve got to prepare for the worst. You might not get paid and you might not get a job’.

“The only thing we’ve got is playing. As players and employees, you don’t have a leg to stand on.”

Bradford are the third Super League club to enter administration in the past two years and Hargreaves fears their troubles could be the “tip of an iceberg”.

“It’s tough times but a reflection of a recession in a working man’s sport,” he said.

“If it can happen to a club as big as Bradford, then of course it can happen to other clubs.

“There’s not much money in the game now and it could be the tip of the iceberg. It happened to two clubs last year, who knows where it stops?

“If you haven’t got someone who is willing to pour a lot of money in, then you’re struggling to survive.”

Guilfoyle’s no-show at Tong for Tuesday’s players meeting sparked an angry response from some players.

Guilfoyle apologised for the mix-up but Hargreaves says it has done nothing to ease the anxiety being felt by the players.

Hargreaves said: “We didn’t get told anything on Monday when he (Guilfoyle) came into the building and sacked the coaches.

“He said ‘come in at 10am tomorrow and you’ll get a brief on what’s happening.’ That’s all we knew and we turned up but did not see him. That’s becoming common practice.

“You could come out with a lot of cliches but I think that’s all we’ve heard as players – a lot of cliches and not too much truth.

“Things will have a way of working themselves out. Whether that’s for good or bad, we’ll just have to deal with it.”

Bulls joint-captain Matt Diskin added: “We’re in the dark, as we have been through the whole process. We don’t know what is happening. We heard rumours right, left and centre and some of them have come to pass now. It’s very frustrating.”
