City will attempt to rebuff Falkirk’s latest claim for a compensation pay-out for Mark Stewart.

The striker’s contract was cancelled earlier this week after Phil Parkinson made it clear he was no longer in the Valley Parade plans.

But his former club Falkirk are still pressing ahead with their bid for up to £300,000 in investment costs for Stewart before his move south of the border.

Falkirk made an official claim in March to FIFA but City have constantly maintained there is nothing to pay. It is understood they received documents from Scotland last week.

A City spokesman said: “We dispute everything and still believe no compensation is due. It’s in the hands of our lawyers but we feel nothing has changed.”

The dispute centres on when the different seasons end in the two countries. City claim that as Stewart had just turned 23 when he signed last summer they are no longer eligible to pay his former club any development fee.

Stewart, signed by Peter Jackson, struggled to make an impact in Yorkshire and failed to score. His only goal was in the penalty shoot-out win at Huddersfield in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.

He broke his foot early on in the season and could not nail down a regular place under Parkinson before returning to Scotland on loan with Hamilton.

Meanwhile, City are on the look-out for a new goalkeeping coach after Kevin Pressman left to take up the post at Millwall. The former Sheffield Wednesday stalwart joined the club ten months ago to replace Tim Dittmer.
