Bradford Park Avenue have confirmed a pre-season friendly with Leeds United - but admitted that the timing is not the best.

Avenue will face their two closest Football League neighbours on consecutive evenings.

John Deacey’s men will host a team from Elland Road on Wednesday, August 8 - the night after the visit from cross-city rivals Bradford City .

Avenue director Kevin Hainsworth has been instrumental in helping manager Deacey formulate the schedule for the warm-up games, and he said: “We only got confirmation of the game this week and, while it’s not ideal, you don’t turn fixtures against the likes of Bradford City and Leeds United away.

“The Wednesday after we play City was the only date Leeds had left. It will be a good, strong side but mainly Neil Redfearn’s team. It will be young reserve-team players with a sprinkling of first-team squad men.

“It will be similar to the sides we have played from Leeds before and the ones that Neil Warnock used to bring to us in pre-season when he was manager of Sheffield United.

"We have also confirmed a friendly against Farsley (Saturday, August 4) but that will be away.”

Former Bantam Redfearn ended his playing career with Park Avenue and moved into coaching.

He began his stint at Elland Road in charge of the youth team but has moved up the pecking order.

Redfearn even had a brief spell as caretaker manager following the departure of Simon Grayson but handed over the reins when Warnock was recruited following his sacking at QPR.

Leeds could have former Avenue keeper Paddy Kenny with them when the new season starts, if rumours suggesting that Warnock wants his former Bury, Sheffield United and QPR stopper with him at Elland Road are to be believed.
