Uncertainty is everywhere you look at Odsal right now, not least in the football department, where coach Mick Potter and 17 of his players are out of contract at the end of the season.

Take Tom Burgess.

The hulking prop clearly loves life at Odsal, is close to his team-mates and has enjoyed a steady season of progression in Super League.

But brothers Sam, Luke and George are all plying their trade Down Under with South Sydney, and he sorely misses them.

The current crisis engulfing the Bulls – with administration seemingly on the horizon – could open the door for Tom to head to Australia, along with mother Julie.

Yet 20-year-old Tom says his future remains undecided as he, like the rest of his team-mates, waits to discover the Bulls’ fate as they bid to avoid administration.

“Hopefully Bradford can get through this and start talking about contracts with players,” said Burgess, looking tanned and healthy after a few days in Spain with team-mates Elliott Whitehead and Michael Platt last week.

“That’s what they need to do and everything will start coming together then I think.”

Asked about the possibility of joining his brothers at Souths, Burgess said: “There’s not a contract offer there yet. I’d definitely consider that if there’s an option but I honestly don’t know yet.

“With different salary caps over there, not a lot of sides know exactly where they’re at.

“We’ll just see what happens in the next couple of months.

“Like I say, I haven’t made a decision yet, but it all depends on the circumstances in front of me and the figures that are on the table.”

Chris Caisley, who remains the Bulls’ largest single shareholder and is working hard behind the scenes to attract the investment required to save the club, acts as agent to the Burgess brothers.

Recently Sam, former Leeds prop Luke and Tom’s twin George all lined up together for the first time as South Sydney faced Canterbury Bulldogs in the NRL.

It was a momentous occasion as Tom explained: “To see all your brothers playing in one team for probably the best league in the world was great. I was the proudest brother ever.

“George got his debut and, to be fair, he could have played last year in all honesty.

“They just didn’t want to rush him but he’s definitely ready because he got picked ahead of someone who’s played over 200 first-grade games.

“He got picked on merit and has been playing outstandingly well in the reserve league, the New South Wales Cup, scoring tries and doing some good stuff.

“It’s encouraging. You see your brothers doing well and think that it would be a possibility for me to go to Australia. The lifestyle is something to consider and I’d be living with my brothers as well.

“I miss them quite a lot. We’ll see. If it happened one day it would be awesome.”

Burgess was recently a target for the paparazzi after he was photographed arm in arm with Coronation Street beauty Catherine Tyldesley in Manchester.

“The papers have their spies out don't they?” said Burgess with a smile.

“She's not my girlfriend – we just went on a date and had something to eat.

“It's early days but we'll definitely still stay in contact and maybe arrange a second date. She's a good-looking girl.”

Much of Burgess’ focus this week has been on preparation for Sunday’s visit of Wakefield.

It is another chance for Burgess to continue his progression after being a virtual ever-present for the Bulls this year, often coming off the bench to make a telling impact.

He reasoned: “I’ve had a few good games here and there and then maybe one where I’ve not been so happy.

“I just want to try and keep it constant and try and do my job for the team week in, week out.

“I’m always working on my fitness because, being such a big fella, it’s hard carrying 19 stone around the pitch every week.

“Working on my skills and the basics such as no knock-ons or giving away penalties, it’s that sort of stuff.”

After a thumping loss at St Helens last time out, the Bulls are keen to rectify that result and complete a Super League double over the Wildcats.

Burgess added: “We were all poor on the day at St Helens and didn’t perform.

“We just have to put that behind us now and keep going as we were doing before that game.

“We’ve had a week off and are raring to go.”
