City have landed a trip to League One outfit Notts County in this morning's Capital One Cup first round draw.
The tie will take place the week commencing August 13, most likely on Tuesday, August 14.
With the Football League not scheduled to kick off until the following Saturday, the match will act as City's curtain-raiser for the forthcoming 2012/13 season.
The trip to Meadow Lane will be the first for Phil Parkinson's men since another cup tie with the Magpies – a 2-1 FA Cup defeat in November 2009.
Other local interest in the first-round draw includes Leeds at home to Shrewsbury, Huddersfield traveling to Preston and Burnley at Port Vale.
