Kyel Reid reckons City can put all the upheaval behind them and make their mark next season.

Reid was Phil Parkinson’s first Valley Parade capture in a campaign that eventually saw 40 different players turn out.

The high turnover followed the early change of manager as Parkinson looked to put his own stamp on the club.

Now winger Reid believes the foundations are in place for the team to have a proper go in Parkinson’s first full season in charge.

He said: “It was never going to be easy (last season) with so many players coming and going.

“There were a lot of new faces, the new management, the new coaching staff and ideas. Everything was changing around.

“The gaffer and Steve Parkin didn’t have enough time to work on the squad because you had matches to play. They just had to make do with what they got and try to change things as we went along.”

City finished 18th for the second year running but Reid saw encouraging signs in the closing stages. With a more settled base to work from, he is genuinely confident of a strong season ahead.

He added: “It’s a shame where we were in the league but we started to play better football. We were looking stronger and harder to beat, especially at home.

“Overall team performances have improved from when I first came in. Now we’ve got to regroup in pre-season because next year will be a big challenge for us.

“I still think we’ve got one of the best teams in the league. On our day we can match up and challenge any of the sides we’ve come up against.

“You’ve seen that with the way we’ve played against the sides at the top of the division. We’re capable of doing that more often.”
