Buttershaw White Star clinched the Bradford Sunday Alliance League Premier Division title with a game to spare after beating Mill Lane 5-1 at the weekend.

Defending champions West Bowling crashed to a 4-1 defeat against struggling Baildon Trinity Athletic, which, coupled with White Star’s victory, ensured the title went back to Buttershaw for the first time since 2009.

Leading 3-1 at the interval with strikes by John Selby, Jordan Missin and Graham Sides, White Star pulled further away after the interval with strikes from Selby and Alex Cusack.

If the new champions avoid defeat in their final game they will have gone the whole season without losing in the league.

Baildon’s surprise win over Bowling secured their place in the top flight.

The sides were all square at the break thanks to a Simon Dawson effort. Darren Leach equalised for the hosts before the interval but the visitors took control of the game in the second period when Tom Higman struck twice.

To rub salt into the wounds, West Bowling conceded an own goal as it finished 4-1.

Baildon can now focus their attention on the upcoming Wharfedale & District FA Sunday Cup final against Menston Town on Tuesday, May 1 at Pool AFC.

Queensbury also ensured their own survival in the top section with a 5-2 victory over District Cup semi-finalists Westwood Park, with braces from man of the match Ross Mason and Andrew Wood and a strike by Mick Naylor.
