Simon Ramsden wants City to kick on like the Cobblers and hot-foot their way clear of trouble.

The Bantams head for Northampton this afternoon chasing the win that should rubberstamp their survival in League Two.

And Ramsden reckons they need to look no further than the home side for inspiration.

Northampton headed into March bottom of the division and staring relegation in the face.

But in a remarkable transformation, Aidy Boothroyd’s side have turned the tables and picked up 18 points from a possible 30.

They now sit two clear of City with a game in hand and looking virtually safe.

Ramsden said: “That’s what you are capable of doing in this division because there is not a lot in the teams.

“Northampton have got the same squad but with a bit of confidence they’ve had a great run and got themselves out of the situation.

“Unfortunately that’s something we’ve not been able to do. We haven’t strung that consistent run of results together. It would be great if we could do that now and carry it through until the end of the season.”

The steady right back believes City will clinch safety but admits it is nothing to celebrate.

Ramsden said: “We’ve got a little bit of a gap over the bottom two but we shouldn’t be thinking about that. We should be looking higher up in the league and it’s not acceptable.

“But that’s the position we’re in and we know that one more win will probably see us over the line.

“We’ve been lucky with the other results going our way recently when we haven’t picked up points.

“That win over Southend was crucial. But we’re under no illusions how big these games coming up will be.

“Until it’s mathematically certain, then you’re always going to be looking over your shoulder. But it’s in our own hands. When you’re playing the teams down there, you can move away a lot quicker.”

Ramsden’s contract is up in the summer and he intends to feature in every minute that is left. The injury problems that have dogged him over the past two years are, hopefully, behind him.

He said: “I’ve started to feel more like my old self in the last few games. Before that I was going in with the odd little niggle.

“I wasn’t necessarily playing within myself but I probably wasn’t 100 per cent. Now I think that I’m back to doing what I know I can. These are important games. Northampton is massive and then Macclesfield will be coming here next week desperate for points because they are deep in trouble.

“We need to be confident. It’s about time we gave the fans something to cheer about because the season has been poor for them.”
