Two Premier Division teams from the Bradford Sunday Alliance League managed to play their West Riding County FA Sunday Cup fourth-round ties yesterday, with contrasting results.

League champions and County Cup holders West Bowling visited Knaresborough and came away with the narrowest of victories in a keen, well-fought tie.

Both teams struggled early on after the mid-season break but it was a midfield battle for the majority of the first half.

Chris Wood broke the deadlock on 70 minutes when he scored a typical striker's goal, getting on the end of a cross into the penalty area and getting inside the home keeper to net.

Neither team really created many chances after that and a 1-0 victory for Bowling was a fair reflection of the game.

Bowling now have a home tie against Alliance opposition when they entertain the winners of the delayed Sandy Lane v Buttershaw White Star tie.

A young and inexperienced Queensbury team held a very good Belle Isle WMC for an hour but five second-half strikes from James Williams proved too much for the youngsters.

Lee Ashforth was in outstanding form for the hosts and was their man of the match.

Wyke Wanderers were once again unable to play Littletown in their delayed third-round tie.

In the West Riding County FA Sunday Trophy, Red Lion overcame Field Head 3-0 in a delayed third- round tie with strikes from Anton Burke and will now play fellow Alliance team Mill Lane Reserves next Sunday, weather permitting, at Avenue Road.

There were also some delayed league cup ties that got off the ground, and Wyke Rangers, from Division 1A, beat Division 1B counterparts Wrose Bull 2-1 in in a delayed third-round Intermediate Cup tie.

Meanwhile, Fleece, also from Division 1B, were beaten in a five-goal thriller by Bolton Woods Socials but it took Woodman Wibsey an extra half-hour to win a three-goal thriller against Undercliffe.
