Campion’s interest in the West Riding County FA Challenge Cup was ended for this season when they lost their fourth-round tie 3-1 at West Yorkshire League Premier Division leaders Beeston St Anthony’s.

Mick Burke deservedly gave Campion the lead after they had dominated the opening 20 minutes but three defensive blunders before half-time allowed Sean Jeavons, Paul McMullen and Steve Williams to score and give the Leeds side control.

In delayed third-round ties, Marsden lost 7-3 at home to Carlton Athletic, while the Golcar United v Brighouse Town game was postponed for the third time, and will now be played next Saturday.

The restart of the West Riding County Amateur League season after the break for Christmas and the New Year was hampered by half of the scheduled league fixtures and County FA Cup games being postponed due to waterlogged grounds.

Tyersal went into the break with a two-point cushion at the top of the Premier Division over second-placed Ovenden West Riding.

And the Bradford club took full advantage of Ovenden’s game at champions Bay Athletic being called off to extend their lead to five points with a comfortable 2-0 home win over bottom-placed Littletown, Terry Ryan scoring both Tyersal’s goals in the first half.

Wibsey, who worked hard to ensure that their ground was fit for their home game against fellow strugglers Hall Green United to go ahead, failed to capitalise on their efforts.

Despite Phil Brogan netting his 15th goal of the season for Wibsey, the visitors, with strikes from John Moore, Damian Powell and Mat Marsden, ran out 3-1 victors to leave Wibsey in second-bottom place and nine points short of safety.

Salts, who missed out on promotion last season from Division One with a run of defeats at the end of the season, strengthened their grip on second place behind runaway leaders Lepton Highlanders with a narrow 2-1 home win over Westbrook YMCA.

Kyle Berry’s first-half opener for Salts was cancelled out by Ian Craig before the interval, Mat Newall securing all three points with a second-half effort.

Halifax Irish, whose only victory in their first 15 games was back in August when they beat Bronte Wanderers 3-1, gave notice to all the other sides above them in the relegation zone that they will not be relegation favourites after a Mick Gregory hat-trick and goals from Callum Cook and Luke Holm gave them a 5-1 home win over Wakefield City, for whom Jay Hall netted a consolation.

Only two games were played in Division Two - one being at Rawdon Old Boys, where Albion Sports held on to top spot with a 2-0 win.

Both sides did well on a wet and windy ground, an own goal from Rawdon’s Will Milner and a Chris Gibbons penalty giving Albion victory.

At Myra Shay, Kirkburton Reserves moved up into third place with a 4-1 win over hosts West Horton.

Oliver Dawson and Chris Parker both netted twice for Kirkburton, with Damian Greenwood scoring for West Horton.

Littletown Reserves extended their unbeaten run to 11 league games in Division Three with a 3-2 success at Bronte Wanderers Reserves.

Ryan Bailey gave the Keighley side a 1-0 advantage before Ben McCardle, Domonic Prendergast and George Porter netted for the divisional leaders, with Danny Darr bagging a second goal for Bronte.
