City lined up at Southend with just one change to the side that drew at home to Plymouth last week, with Nahki Wells replacing Jack Compton.
Wells was handed a chance to partner James Hanson up front as Compton dropped to a bench that also included Mark Stewart.
The last time Stewart was included in the squad was against Hereford in October.
