The terrible weather over the region meant that a complete programme of matches in the Bradford Sunday Alliance League were wiped out yesterday, with the majority being called off by Bradford Council on Friday.

Some clubs that play on private grounds suffered the same fate.

The Premier Division does have a familiar look, with Buttershaw White Star leading the way and West Bowling close on their heels as both teams remain undefeated in league and local cups.

Westwood Park and Wyke Wanderers are waiting to pounce if either or both of the top two falter in the new year.

If both of the top two win their respective West Riding County FA Sunday Cup fourth-round ties - White Star at Sandy Lane and the holders at Boroughbridge - they are scheduled to meet in the quarter-finals at Emsley’s Rec on the first weekend in February, the week after they play each other in a league fixture at the same ground.

The first league match between resulted in a draw as they shared two goals at Manningham.

There are only two points between the bottom five teams in the division, with only one team going down at the end of the season, and even Bolton Woods, who are in mid-table, are only four points clear of cellar dwellers Ventus Sports Westwood Park and Wyke Wanderers meet in the Bradford & District FA Sunday Cup fourth round at Westwood Park next Sunday.

Wyke have also to play their delayed County Cup tie against Littletown Sunday but that game will take place on the date of the next round of County Cup ties next month, with the fourth-round tie the week after.

Thornton United are the pacesetters in a strong First Division, with Oakenshaw five points behind with a game in hand on the leaders.

Sandy Lane and Peel Park are also in contention for the two promotion berths into the Premier Division for next season.

In Division 1A, Buttershaw Celtic have a had a great start to the season and lead the division by 15 points, with Victoria Rangers and Wyke Rangers also pushing for a promotion spot Only two other clubs in the league have 100 per cent league records, and they are Division 1A leaders Buttershaw Celtic and Division 2B pacesetters Whitburn Athletic.

Bankfoot Lions, from Division 2A, and Division 2B team Great Horton Fire Brigade have still to record their first victories of the season, so will be hoping for an upturn in form in the new year.
