James Hanson hailed his precious point-saving strike against Plymouth as one of the best goals of his City career and admitted his delight at ending his scoring drought.

The towering frontman struck a brilliant 86th-minute leveller to give Phil Parkinson’s men a 1-1 draw after Craig Sutherland had put Argyle ahead shortly before the hour mark.

Hanson, partnered up front with Craig Fagan after Ross Hannah pulled out of the starting line-up having felt his hamstring tighten up during the warm-up, had not scored in his previous nine appearances.

But his expertly-taken left-foot shot from Kyel Reid’s cross, his sixth goal of the season, kept City three points above Plymouth.

Hanson – who sank to his knees in celebration – said: “I hadn’t scored for a while, so I was happy to then score probably one of my best goals for Bradford.

“If we hadn’t got that equaliser it would have been all doom and gloom, but at least we got a point out of it. It could have been a lot worse.”
