Worksop Town 4 Bradford Park Avenue 1

Bradford Park Avenue’s interest in this season’s FA Trophy is over following defeat at Evo-Stik Premier Division rivals Worksop last night in a first qualifying-round replay.

The visitors were always in the game but two goals for the home side in the last ten minutes gave the final scoreline an emphatic look.

It was far from that, despite Bradford having a weakened side out on the night.

There were few chances in the first half, although Avenue keeper John Lamb made an early save from Town striker Massiah McDonald’s shot.

It was a brief respite for the visitors as Worksop broke the deadlock in the 26th minute.

McDonald was involved again as he provided the cross that Ash Burberry headed back for Town skipper Mark Hudson to score.

Hudson netted the penalty that put Worksop in front during Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Horsfall Stadium in the initial clash.

Hudson drilled in a screamer of a 25-yard free-kick just seven minutes into the second half to put the home side 2-0 up.

Avenue halved that deficit in the next minute with an equally superb strike as Jordan Deacey lashed in a volley after a Nicky Boshell free-kick had been half cleared.

Deacey, son of Avenue boss John, was at the centre of a contentious issue soon after. The midfielder rounded a defender in the area and was looking to cross the ball when he appeared to be brought down but the referee was unmoved.

More controversy followed when the home side extended their lead ten minutes from time. Danny Davidson broke and played a one-two with Jamie Jackson before slotting through the legs of Lamb, who was then yellow-carded for his vociferous complaints to the assistant referee. The keeper felt Davidson was in an offside position when he scored.

Avenue’s agony was complete in the second minute of stoppage time when Jackson scored with a well-placed shot.
