City today kicked off a flurry of transfer activity by unveiling Scottish duo Mark Stewart and Chris Mitchell – as they closed in on another “top” signing.
Peter Jackson’s squad revamp has stepped up a gear with the capture of the former Falkirk pair.
Striker Stewart, 22, was joint top-scorer in the Scottish First Division last season with 17 goals and City beat off a host of clubs – including Scunthorpe – for his signature on a two-year deal.
Former Scotland under-21 international Mitchell, who has signed for one year with an option to extend it, is a versatile player who can operate across the back four as well as in a defensive midfield role.
Peter Jackson said: “It’s a big move for them and they are both really looking forward to the challenge. Like Ross Hannah and Guy Branston, they are excited about coming here and want to do well.
“I’m delighted with both, particularly Mark because there were a lot of clubs watching him..
“We’ve brought in two strikers now who got 70 goals between them last season. If they can get half of that this time then I’ll be happy.”
More arrivals are expected to follow during the next month and chief scout Archie Christie was in London last night for talks with representatives of an unnamed midfielder.
