Guiseley 5 Whitby Town 0

Guiseley's season finally clicked into gear last night as they logged a handsome win over rivals Whitby Town.

It ended a frustrating start to their UniBond Premier Division campaign and propelled them up the league table.

Close-season signing Gavin Knight was the toast of Nether-moor as he claimed his first hat-trick in front of his new fans.

Knight opened the scoring in the 37th minute and grabbed a second just four minutes later. Scott Jackson added the third, following good work by Matt Smithard, and Andy Wright netted the fourth goal before Knight finished Whitby off four minutes from time.

"It was very pleasing and the players got their rewards from the hard work they have put in over the previous five games," said Guiseley boss Neil Parsley.

"I said to the players on Saturday, after the draw at Leek, that if we continued to match that work ethic then someone would pay the price.

"Unfortunately for Whitby it was them who were on the end of the spanking."

Meanwhile, Silsden are still looking to build on their last victory in the North West Counties top tier when they make the short journey over the Lancashire border tonight for a derby against Nelson.

The Cobblydalers won 2-1 at Flixton but that was a week last Saturday. The home date with Bacup Borough, scheduled for the weekend, was a victim of heavy rain.

"We were a bit disappointed because the pitch at Cougar Park is in decent nick at the moment," said Silsden boss Paul Schofield.

"There were arguments for and against but it is down to the referee. All the pressure is on him and, unfortunately, any comebacks."

Defender Michael Rhodes is unavailable due to his work commitments with the Fire Brigade and goalkeeper Martin Foulger is also away.

Phil Rishton steps in for the regular custodian.
