Peter Jackson has been tipped to bring the spirit of ’84 back to City.

Jackson, who was captain of the celebrated side that went on to win promotion to English football’s second tier in 1985, is desperate to replicate the success as manager.

That team was built on youth, with Jackson joined by the likes of Stuart McCall and John Hendrie, and director of operations Dave Baldwin believes the current crop will benefit from a similar approach.

He said: “It’s a fresh start and people have renewed optimism because we’ve had a clearing of the decks. There’s also the possibility of giving more young players a chance to impress.

“In 1983-84 we had four or five youngsters given opportunities and we all know how that turned out. By 1984-85 we were Division Three champions and they were all players who had only been finding their feet in the professional game a year earlier.

“Next season could be very similar to 1983-84 because we can blood youngsters and have a fresh new team. If the foundations are right, we can really kick on.”

Baldwin has been pleased with the early response to City’s latest season-ticket campaign.

Adult season tickets cost £195, with youngsters aged 11 to 16 paying £87.50. The prices are £150 or £75 respectively in the TL Dallas Stand.

The offer is available until July 16. Season tickets can be purchased at www.bradfordcityfc.co.uk, by calling 08719-788000 or by visiting the Valley Parade ticket office, which is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm and Saturday from 9am to 12pm.
