Bradford Park Avenue director Kevin Hainsworth has promised fans that work behind the scenes is ongoing but revealed there will be no imminent announcements regarding the team.

The club’s supporters have been awaiting developments over player negotiations and some concrete evidence that the squad will stay together since it was made clear that John Deacey and assistant Mark Hume would be in charge next season.

Hainsworth said: “It will be another couple of weeks yet before we get some players sorted out. It is a case of re-signing the ones we had and, hopefully, adding one or two. But there will be no new signings while John is away.

“He has been in Thailand playing in a veterans world cup competition and then he is having a short holiday. But that doesn’t mean we are all taking a break. In fact, there is an awful lot going on and we wouldn’t have it any other way.”

It is understood that Deacey has left a list of nominated targets and the three-man board – Hainsworth, chairman John Dean and chief executive Bob Blackburn – are trusted allies of their manager.

They have the final say on the club’s playing budget and have always worked closely with Deacey in the past.

Hainsworth said: “The players are coming back in for pre-season training on Monday, July 4, so we have a lot of sorting out to do before then – and little time to do it because these close seasons are getting shorter and shorter.

“We still haven’t finalised all the friendlies yet but we have the one against Bradford City confirmed. It is at Horsfall this year because we played them at Valley Parade last time.

“There are other games already agreed and others are still at the discussion stage but they will be settled. Agreeing dates is the difficult bit.”
