New Thackley boss Vince Brockie has met with most of the players he inherited over the past week and underlined his vision to take the club forward.

Some of the squad were already away on their summer holidays but Brockie and assistant Sean Regan, who was first-team coach at Dennyfield last season, will be catching up with them all before pre-season training gets underway.

“Thackley were a decent side before I got here so we don’t want drastic changes,” said Brockie.

“Unless the players want to leave then they will all be in our plans for the coming season.

“That is what we don’t know at this stage, whether they want to go, because other managers will have noticed them and there will be some that get offers from other clubs.

“They got all the way to the West Riding County Cup final last season and beat some good sides along the way.

“That is full credit to David (Dave Morgan – a former assistant to Brockie, who the former Leeds United midfielder is taking over from) because he assembled a good squad and brought some success to the club.

“It will be a difficult task for Sean and myself to continue what has been started here but it is such a good opportunity that we couldn’t help but go for it.

“I have got a couple of players in mind that I would like to bring in but they are mainly young ones. I have invited two or three up to the club to join us for pre-season training because I have seen the potential in them.

“The main thing is to get the players from last season settled and committed to the club for the new season.”

The Dennyboys are due back from their summer break on Tuesday, July 5 and have a provisional friendly against nearest neighbours Eccleshill United just 11 days later.
