Former Bradford City boss Chris Kamara is leading a team up Mount Kilimanjaro tomorrow as part of the Football League’s trek on behalf of Marie Curie Cancer Care.

‘Team Kammy’ is made up of football fans representing 17 clubs from across the United Kingdom, as well as newly-promoted Swansea City boss Brendan Rodgers, former Coventry City manager, Bradford-born Aidy Boothroyd and Middlesbrough chairman Steve Gibson, who is a life-long friend of former Leeds United and City player Kamara.

Kamara said: “This is going to be a huge challenge personally but it will be made easier by the unbelievable support shown by some of my friends from within the game and the fans that are joining me along the way.”

Rodgers, who has clinched promotion for Swansea City to the Premier League, spoke about his drive to continue reaching new heights.

He said: “My objective for this year was to complete two challenges.

“The first, to get Swansea promoted to the Premier League and the second – arguably the more difficult of the two – to get to the top of Kilimanjaro.

“I’m honoured and proud to be given the opportunity to raise money for such a wonderful charity.”
