Peter Jackson insists the City players have not been sidetracked by off-field money worries.

Some of the higher earners in his squad have had to wait a week longer for their April wages after being paid by cheque.

The pay delay comes just a month after the club were late settling their quarterly rent with the Valley Parade landlords because of cashflow problems.

Jackson has already warned of a “rocky” summer while the club try to thrash out a solution for the stadium overheads they can no longer afford.

On the field, at least, safety is secure and the interim boss believes the team have stayed focused on their own job despite the growing distractions.

“Obviously it’s important that the players do get paid and they have been,” said Jackson.

“It’s not an issue. Clubs at this level who have under-achieved will have financial problems and we just have to get on with it.

“We have to concentrate on our job, which is keeping the club in this division, and we’ve done that.”

Meanwhile, Kevin Ellison has returned to Rotherham because of his thigh injury.

City supporters are holding their unofficial player awards presentation tonight at Woodbottom WMC in Baildon Bridge, with doors opening at 7pm.
