Winsford United 4, Silsden 0

Silsden played almost the entire second half with ten men as they slumped to a heavy Vodkat League defeat in the Premier Division at second-placed Winsford United.

The guilty man was defender Peter Hanson, who gave away a penalty two minutes before the interval and committed a foul on the same player two minutes into the second half to pick up a second yellow card.

The first misdemeanour was punished when Liam Newman, who had been held back in the area, netted from the spot.

The second offence was outside the area but it led to the Cobbydalers facing an uphill challenge.

Winsford doubled their lead on the hour following some desperate defending by the visitors.

Cobbydalers keeper Chris Thompson punched away a cross but it was headed back into the goalmouth and, after being headed out by Ben Lamb, the ball dropped for Adam Bayley to force it over the line.

Lee Jones set up Winsford’s third goal with a good run in the 66th minute which was finished by Newman.

Jones wrapped it up in the last minute when he drove in a powerful shot himself after another bustling run from midfield.

Silsden secretary Jim Rosser said: “The result looks bad but we weren’t outplayed, not to that extent.

“The game hinged on two incidents either side of half-time when Peter fouled the same player. We were under the cosh after going down to ten men and it caught up with us.”
