Leeds United defender Patrick Kisnorbo is optimistic that he can win his long battle for full fitness and earn a new contract.
Kisnorbo, whose present deal runs out in the summer, has been sidelined since tearing his Achilles tendon in the sixth minute of United’s 2-0 defeat against Millwall at Elland Road in March and has only recently packed away his crutches after a spell of rehabilitation in America.
The Australian, who will be 30 next month, said: “I’ve been through a lot since last March but hopefully it’s onward and upward now there are no more surgeons, doctors or crutches. People don’t realise how hard it is to be out so long, but I am looking forward to running soon and kicking a ball again.”
United manager Simon Grayson is still refusing to put an estimated date on Kisnorbo’s return but the central defender, who was in excellent form before his injury, will be given every opportunity to regain full fitness and capture a new deal.
