Guiseley will face a huge test in the quarter-finals of the FA Trophy after drawing Luton Town but they have previous experience to draw on.

The Lions made the journey to Kenilworth Road to take on The Hatters in the first round of the FA Cup when Neil Parsley was manager and Clive Freeman was player-coach.

It was November, 2002 and it was a much different scenario back then because Luton were a Football League outfit managed by Joe Kinnear and Mick Harford, while the Lions were a UniBond League club.

This meeting sees just 25 places separating the clubs. Luton are secomd in the Blue Square Premier, while Guiseley are third in the Blue Square North.

The past experience current Guiseley boss Steve Kittrick speaks of has come with four games against Blue Square Premier outfits this term.

Kittrick said: “Obviously they are a top Conference club and will be very strong but when we played Crawley Town in the FA Cup they were top of that division.”

The big spenders of the non-league game knocked Guiseley out, with a 5-0 win at Nethermoor, and are still in the competition, gearing up to take on Manchester United at Old Trafford.

The other three meetings Guiseley have had with sides from the division higher this season have all been in the Trophy, and none ended in defeat. Two wins and a draw saw off not only Eastbourne Borough but also holders Barrow.

“We were well worth our victory on Tuesday (the replay against Eastbourne). They defended well but didn’t really cause our defence a lot of problems," added Kittrick. "I don’t know if they had a few injuries or not but they were lacking a bit up front,”

“I have to be pleased with the way things have gone so far, and the lads are looking forward to the Luton tie, but we have two very important league games to focus on first because we can’t allow our position in the table to suffer.”
