The death has been announced of George Parker, aged 84, who was a member of the West Riding County Amateur League management committee for over 30 years.

George, who lived in Halifax, joined the league as the representative from the West Riding Referees’ Association in 1976. He was elected as a vice-president in 1984 and then granted life membership in 1994.

George continued refereeing up to a few season ago and also served on the grounds committee.

He will be remembered for his involvement in cricket too as an umpire and for his other passion of crown green bowls. His funeral will be held on Wednesday, February 16 at Park Wood Crematorium, Elland at 3pm.
