Young guns Alex Flett and Dominic Rowe will be relishing the build-up for Saturday’s big game.

The duo’s efforts in City’s FA Youth Cup heroics have earned them shirt numbers in Peter Taylor’s squad.

Just as importantly, they are now training every day with the seniors.

Taylor believes the way they get on at Apperley Bridge is another crucial part of the learning curve.

He said: “It’s a case of how they handle that as well and so far they’ve done a good job.

“Sometimes you get a young lad training with the first team and they are in awe of them too much. They try to give them an impossible pass rather than keeping it simple.

“The two boys seem to be very confident. We’ve asked them to play in the same way as they have done with the youth team. It’s a little promotion and something the other young scholars should be looking at. If they are working really hard, then there is the opportunity there to get a shirt.”

Flett, an ever-present for the reserves as well, has been handed number 31. Rowe, who netted five goals in the cup run, is 32.

While Taylor is leaning more towards experience during City’s tough run, he knows the impact two hungry young faces can have.

He said: “They have been impressive. I’ve been to see them in all the FA Youth Cup games and I think they are potentially going to be good players.

“The boy Flett is a decent holding midfielder who looks very comfortable on the ball. Dominic, to me, could be a sub coming off the bench with the pace he has in his locker.”
