Parkgate 3 Farsley AFC 2

The leadership of the Northern Counties East League Premier Division changed hands when second-placed Parkgate edged a five-goal thriller over Farsley.

Neil Parsley’s men have been sitting on top of the pile virtually all season but have been experiencing a serious dip in form.

That recent run of poor displays was not evident in this game and the manager had nothing but praise for his men.

“It was as close as the scoreline suggests and I would say they were hanging on at the end,” said Parsley. “We just couldn’t force the equaliser.

“The result is disappointing because we all knew just exactly how much was riding on it but that’s football. My players have done me and the club proud, they have battled hard and played some good stuff.

“We had a goal disallowed when Scotty Driscoll found the back of the net late on when we had Parkgate under pressure. We have lost three points but we move on.”

Parkgate took the lead when Ashley Worsfold opened the scoring in the 19th minute but Roy Stamer levelled two minutes later. A Nathan Swindells strike midway through the first half saw the home side a goal to the good at the interval.

After the break, Worsfold netted his second but Stamer scored again to ensure a frantic finale.
