Farsley have hastily rearranged one of their games lost to the weather over what has been a Christmas to forget for football fans.

Neil Parsley’s side still lead the Kool Sport Northern Counties East League Premier Division because all their rivals have also been robbed of games by the horrendous weather.

The Throstle Nest outfit have played more games than their fellow promotion-chasers but the others are still playing catch-up.

Farsley manager Parsley said: “It has been difficult for all of the clubs, not just at our level, because of the extended cold snap. No games have been played and the clubs need the revenue.

“The clubs that should have been at home have not had that opportunity to get the paying public through the gates. The bars haven’t been open or the food outlets, so there has been no income.”

Farsley were due to host Thackley last Monday but the local derby was a victim of the weather. With no NCE League fixtures planned for ten days from that date, the club’s hierarchy decided to act and reschedule the game for Tuesday.

Parsley said: “It was very frustrating because last Monday was a Bank Holiday and we expected a very good crowd on the day.

“It would have been a decent attendance and a decent game because Thackley are a very good side who are pushing forward.

“With so many games off it would have dragged a few out of the house to come along and watch what would have been quite a game.”

Parsley and his bosses at Throstle Nest know they have missed out on anything like a bumper crowd by rearranging for Tuesday but there are complications which meant they wanted to get the game played.

“It wouldn’t have been a weekend game when it was rearranged so it didn’t matter when we got it in but we have added problems here,” he said.

“With Leeds Carnegie sharing our ground, there is a real backlog of fixtures. The winter has done none of the clubs any favours and all of us have a number of games to pencil in.

“With two of us using the same facilities, we are going to have to be a bit flexible when it comes to getting these games in.”
