Bradford Park Avenue’s home game against Mickleover Sports in the Evo-Stick Premier Division scheduled for tomorrow afternoon has been moved to Tuesday (3pm kick-off).

Director Kevin Hainsworth said: “The decision was taken to give the game the best possible chance of going ahead.

“The temperature is set to rise to about five or six degrees on Tuesday, whereas at the weekend it has still been around zero.

“It is just a nightmare at the moment and we haven’t played at home since the end of October. We are desperate for John (recently returned manager Deacey) to get into some sort of routine.

“John has been working very hard with the squad and all the lads are as fit as possible and just want the games to come. It is down to the gods at the moment, there is nothing anyone can do that hasn’t been done.”

Bradford City called their Boxing Day fixture off as early as last Thursday while Avenue’s divisional rivals FC Halifax Town have put their game back 24 hours.

The Shaymen felt they had a better chance of hosting Ossett Town if they waited a day and have rescheduled for Tuesday at 3pm.

Hainsworth added: “With City being off it gave us a great incentive to get the game on in the hope that we can pick up a few floaters.

“I think some of their fans, and indeed a lot more people from the area, will come along on Tuesday just to see a game – if it’s on.

“We saw what Halifax were doing and thought it was a very good idea, because Tuesday is also a Bank Holiday.

“It is an athletics day at Horsfall Stadium so we had to speak to the council to get their permission before discussing it with the league and our opponents.

“The league had no complaints about it and the Mickleover manager gave it the go-ahead once he had contacted his players to ensure they were all available. Let’s hope it works out for us all and the pitch is fit for play.”
