Loan star Richard Eckersley has called on City to repay boss Peter Taylor with victory against Accrington tonight.

Since arriving on a six-week deal from Burnley, Eckersley has been bowled over by the set-up at Valley Parade – and particularly the Bantams’ experienced boss.

Even after tasting defeat on his debut against Macclesfield, the 21-year-old full back can foresee a turnaround in fortunes, providing just reward for Taylor’s meticulous approach.

“It’s a good set-up and I’ve loved it,” he said ahead of tonight’s clash with Accrington.

“The support’s great, the ground’s great and the lads have been fantastic too.

“The gaffer’s record speaks for itself. He knows what he’s talking about and he knows how to work with the lads and how to get the best out of them.

“You can see that in the lads because they all enjoy playing for him. Now hopefully we can repay that by getting a win.

“We played really well against Macclesfield but we can play even better. If we do that we’ll start winning games, which will pull us up the league.

“I don’t see why not because we’ve got the players to do it and hopefully we can do it now.”

Eckersley made an instant impact on his City debut, named man of the match after a tenacious, energetic display.

It was his first competitive outing in almost three months, having made just one League Cup appearance for Burnley this season.

Opportunities have been limited at Turf Moor since a £500,000 switch from Manchester United in June 2009 and Eckersley admits City are currently his number one priority.

He said: “I’m probably more determined than ever to achieve my goals in football. I just have to keep kicking on, keep working hard and do well with Bradford.

“Saturday wasn’t about me, it was about the team. If we’d got the win and I’d got man of the match, I might have been able to enjoy it but it’s about the team.

“I just wanted to play. I don’t care where it is, I just enjoy playing football.

“When you’re not playing regularly it’s the worst thing in the world because you take it out on the people you don’t need to take it out on. It’s just great to be playing again but hopefully we can start winning and it’ll be even better.”

And Eckersley believes a bit of luck in front of goal is all it will take for City to return to winning ways.

He added: “I think we dominated the game against Macc, especially in the second half, but we just couldn’t get that equalising goal. If the opposition put 11 men behind the ball it’s really difficult to break them down no matter how on top you are in the game.

“We created everything, it was literally putting the ball in the back of the net. We just couldn’t do it but hopefully we’ll be able to do it against Accrington.”
