Patrick Ah Van has been given the green light to run with the Bulls next season.

The 22-year-old flyer signed a one-year deal last month and this week had his visa application approved, rubber-stamping his switch from New Zealand Warriors.

One of eight off-season arrivals so far, Ah Van was released from his contract with the NRL club a year early so he could make the move to Odsal.

Able to play wing, centre or full back, he scored 16 tries in 54 first-grade appearances Down Under but found opportunities limited this year after breaking his jaw at the start of the campaign.

Ah Van is expected to join his new team-mates for pre-season training on November 16, with the first group of players due back at the Bulls’ Tong training base on Monday.

New signings Chev Walker and Ian Sibbit will link up with James Donaldson, Elliott Whitehead and Danny Addy among others to start preparations for 2011 under the guidance of assistant coach Lee St Hilaire and head of physical performance Geoff Evans.

Meanwhile, the funeral of Terry Newton will take place in Wigan next Friday, October 8.

Hundreds of mourners are expected to pay their respects to the former Bulls hooker, who died at his Orrell home last Sunday in an apparent suicide.

His coffin will be driven past the DW Stadium at around 1.30pm, on the way to his funeral and burial at St John’s C of E Church in Pemberton.

His father, Tony, has asked for only family flowers, but any donations can be made through the family to Butterflies – a charity that was close to Newton’s heart.
