Guiseley face a long trip in the Blue Square Bet North on Saturday as they head to Gloucester City, a journey that astounds manager Steve Kittrick.

The Lions boss smiled as he said: “The only thing north about Gloucester is the northbound carriageway of the M5 coming out of there.

“I don’t know what they are doing in this division, to be honest, but at least we are going there in the decent weather.

“I think Harrogate Town have had to go down there on a midweek night and I understand that when Farsley Celtic were in the division they had a Saturday game postponed because it was the middle of winter and they had to go on a Tuesday or Wednesday.

“It will be a tough day but not because of the nightmare journey. Gloucester are a tough team – but we have no injuries and that is what you want at this stage.”

Gloucester are very much hit or miss this season, having won four and lost four of their eight league starts. That leaves them two places behind Guiseley, who are joint-fifth but only three points better off than their hosts.

Kittrick said: “We are still a bit of a surprise package in this division and it will take ten or 12 games for the table to settle down, so we aren’t getting carried away.

“One thing I’ve learned is that there are no mugs in this division, from the bottom side to the top.

“All of the sides have class players that can open you up and can hurt you. The fitness levels are good and they are all very well organised. There is a lot of quality in this league and I think the start has been kind to us.

“That will wear off and at the end of the day we are not daft enough to think that this unbeaten run of ours will last forever. It has been encouraging for us though, as a promoted club to have come in and picked up so many points early on.”
