Omar Daley has told Peter Taylor: I will prove I’m worth a place in your plans.

The Jamaican winger has started four games this season but admits he can understand the City chief’s dilemma over whether to pick him regularly.

And he was up-front about it with the manager.

Taylor said: “Omar is a very genuine fellow and, when we agreed he could go off with Jamaica, he was honest about his position.

“He has got a lot to do and so far he’s done absolutely nothing. He says that himself and I agree.”

Daley could feature against Gillingham after playing a full 90 minutes for the reserves against Sheffield Wednesday. He came through well in difficult windy conditions.

He was named on the bench at Stockport when Zesh Rehman pulled out with a stiff neck. But Taylor was reluctant to involve him after his transatlantic trips that week for international duty.

“Omar still needs to build up his fitness and then show what he can do,” said Taylor.

“We know all about his pace but there’s also got to be end product with that. I say the same thing to any winger, that you’ve either got to make a goal or score a goal.”

Tom Adeyemi (toe) and Tommy Doherty (ankle) were being assessed this morning after sitting out training yesterday.
