Silsden 0, St Helens Town 3

Silsden are still seeking their first win at their revamped ground.

The weekend defeat at Keighley Road was their second at home this season but they have picked two points up from a couple of draws. This was a hard one to swallow because St Helens are at the lower end of the Vodkat Premier Division table.

They went behind in the tenth minute when keeper Chris Thompson was beaten by Mick Dyson after hacking a clearance right to the St Helens man. The second goal they conceded also had an element of self-inflicted injury about it.

The ball went straight to the visitors from a throw-in and was lumped up field before a cross was converted by Liam Pearson. The home side created some chances but Sam Heap was thwarted by the visitors’ keeper and he blazed a later effort over.

Midway through the second half, Thompson was left exposed by yet another defensive error and Pearson plundered his second. Substitute Mick Rosser came on up front and made a big difference but it was not enough to stop defeat.

With boss Chris Reape away, Andy Geary was helping out. He said: “Silsden are getting no consistency from the young lads at the moment and that makes life difficult.

“After a super 0-0 draw at Colne, one of the clubs flying in the league, in midweek there was no reason to see this coming. It is a learning curve for them all and it will take time but the lads have the ability.”
