City could have a new striker in to face Stockport at the weekend.

Peter Taylor confirmed he had a target in mind now that the emergency loan market is open again for clubs below the top flight.

With hamstring victim James Hanson stuck on the sidelines, the Bantams boss is looking for short-term cover in attack and had a player watched last night.

Hanson might be out for two or three weeks with his injury so we could do with having another forward,” said Taylor.

“I know the loan system is available and there is somebody I’m looking at and I think it would help the front two.

“Sometimes you can get a fresh face in just for the sake of it but if I feel a player coming in would make a difference then I will definitely think about it.”

City have scored only two league goals in five games and one of those came from the penalty spot.

But Taylor, fresh from shooting down rumours of a rift with the board, remains bullish about their prospects.

“I’m not very happy at all with the results but we aren’t far away,” he said.

“I bet there were other teams who played a lot worse than us last Saturday and won. Unfortunately everything’s going against us at the minute – but that will change.”

Taylor expects David Syers to be in contention to face Stockport on Saturday.

The midfielder complained of soreness in his calf after the Port Vale loss. He did train on Monday but pulled out during the session.

Taylor said: “We’re hoping it’s just tiredness, rather than a pull. You have to be careful with players coming from non-league.

“I’m sure Hanson and (Steve) Williams felt the same when all of a sudden you’re going from part-time to full-time. You have to take that into account.

“David knows the areas he needs to improve on but I fancy him to be a goal-scorer for us from midfield, which is what he does in training.

“I think he will get better as a player but he’s got fantastic energy. In last week’s game, he got in the box every time.”
