Bradford Open golf champion James Firth is on course to win another title, having clocked up a healthy lead in the Karl Curran Memorial Trophy.

In the competition formerly known as the T&A Golfer of the Year – it was renamed in honour of the late South Bradford member Curran – points are awarded for performances in Bradford Union-related events throughout the season.

Firth is 14.5 points ahead of the field, having also won the Jim Wade Trophy for best combined score in the Open and Amateur Strokeplay, finishing fifth in the latter event at Skipton.

Firth (pictured) also clocked up several points as part of Baildon’s Scratch League-winning team and has helped the Bradford Union side to second spot in the Yorkshire Inter-District table with two games to go.

Bradford Golf Club junior Matthew Atter is in second place in the Karl Curran Trophy standings, with West Bradford’s Terry Brushwood in third.

Remaining qualifying events are two union matches, the Inter-District and First Division Team Championships and the Matchplay crown.
