Leeds’ first two Championship matches of next season will be televised.

The opening game of the campaign, against Derby at Elland Road on Saturday, August 7, has been switched from a 3pm kick-off to 5.15pm for screening by BBC1.

Then after entertaining Lincoln in the Carling Cup first round three days later, United will be televised by Sky Sports at Nottingham Forest in a league fixture moved from Saturday, August 14 to the following day (1.15pm).

Leeds’ visit to Cardiff has also been put back 24 hours from Monday, January 3 to the next day (7.45pm) at the insistence of South Wales Police.

Defender Andrew Hughes believes United have a squad capable of challenging for a second successive promotion.

He said: “We have a good squad of young, hungry players who are eager for success in the Championship. It’s not a team of players who have been there and done it.

“If you have a squad of players who have seen it all before and are just happy to tick along, that’s unacceptable. Leeds want hungry players who are prepared to fight for their place and give the fans success.

“It has taken three years to give our supporters something to shout about and we want to make them happy every year.”
