The sale of the Throstle Nest site by the administrators of the defunct Farsley Celtic has given Farsley AFC the green light for the coming season.

Life president John Palmer just failed in a bid to bring the former Celts out of administration and since then has worked hard to ensure a Phoenix club would be able to rise from the ashes.

Palmer persuaded Neil Parsley to become manager of the new outfit and attended meetings at Wembley with the FA, the West Riding FA and the Northern Counties East League, in which Farsley AFC have been offered a place in the Premier Division.

Developments on Thursday, which saw Leeds Council purchase the Throstle Nest complex, provided the final piece of the jigsaw.

A delighted Parsley said: “It is all systems go now and, after all the pitfalls and disasters of last season when we had more than our fair share of bad news, it is nice to get some good news. It secures the new club for the coming season.

“We will try to utilise that and build on it to get a real feel-good factor about the place before the campaign starts.

“Our first training session will be on Tuesday and I have already spoken to a lot of players.

“I have had some very good feedback from the lads and I’m sure there will be some eyebrows raised when we get down to players putting pen to paper.”
