West Bradford duo Stephen Gallagher and Andrew Turton are one step away from possible glory at the International Pairs UK final after winning a place in the global competition’s regional finals.

Gallagher, who plays off a handicap of nine, and 18-handicap partner Turton scored 48 stableford points to head 75 other pairs and win their club’s qualifying event.

They next travel to Oulton Hall in September to compete for a place in the UK final to be held at De Vere’s Wychwood Park in Cheshire later that month.

That gives the chance to qualify for the International Pairs world final, which is being staged at The Carrick on Loch Lomond from October 6-8.

International Pairs is the world’s largest competition of its kind for club golfers and has attracted competitors from all around the globe since founder Ross Honey first conceived the idea in 1998.

Initially an event for club golfers in Hampshire to celebrate the millennium, the competition has grown to include around 30 countries including America, Canada, South Africa and Nigeria.

Australia, Romania and Vietnam are three more countries to have joined the International Pairs family this year.
