Michael Flynn wants to erase the memories of last season’s nightmare start when City tackle Nottingham Forest again in the Carling Cup.

The Championship play-off semi-finalists will travel to Valley Parade in the first week of the new campaign.

And Flynn is hoping there will be no repeat of the 3-0 defeat the Bantams suffered at the City Ground at the same stage a year ago.

The Welsh firebrand admitted: “Drawing Forest brings back bad memories. Thank God we aren’t starting at Notts County and then having to go back down there again!

“But I’m sure it will be a totally different game at our place. It’s a match that will definitely whet the crowd’s appetite and if we are going to play a big team, then you’d always rather it be at home.

“Forest are a very strong team with a good manager in Billy Davies. But let’s hope they’ve still got a hangover from losing in the play-offs.

“I’m looking forward to the game already and hopefully we can catch them cold and pull off an upset.”

A home draw is a rare luxury for City. They have not played in the Carling Cup at Valley Parade since 2004, when Colin Todd’s side went down 2-1 to Notts County.

City have a desperate record in the competition. They last won a tie five years ago when a Dean Windass hat-trick inspired a 5-0 romp at Rochdale.

The first-round clash is likely to take place on Tuesday, August 10, although it could be moved 24 hours because Leeds have also been drawn at home to Lincoln. Huddersfield must travel to Carlisle.
