Peter Taylor is confident variety will spice up City after Michael Flynn yesterday added to his midfield options.

Flynn signed on for another two years at Valley Parade, filling his manager with excitement about the Bantams’ strength in the engine room.

Fellow midfield mainstay Lee Bullock had already agreed a new deal earlier in the week to add to the signing of experienced campaigner Tommy Doherty.

City can also call on the youthful exuberance of James O’Brien and Scott Neilson, plus the trickery of Omar Daley.

“I’m very pleased Michael has signed a new deal,” said Taylor.

“I thought he has played very well in my time at the club and his strength is that he can score goals from midfield and can also play up front.

“It was important we got him signed up, as well as Lee Bullock.

“You’ll never have a good season if you play the same team and the same way every week, so we need different strengths in every position.

“We’ve got a good mix and it’ll allow us to adapt our style.”

Signed from neighbours Huddersfield Town in August last year, Flynn has established himself as a real driving force in the City midfield.

The 29-year-old started more games than anyone else at the club last season, 47 in total, while scoring eight goals.

Flynn had made no secret of his desire to stay at Valley Parade. “I love playing for Bradford City and I want to get us out of this division,” he said last month.
