It’s hard to know who will be more nervous, the three party leaders going into tonight’s election debate or Leeds fans, manager Simon Grayson and his team when they line up against MK Dons at Elland Road on Saturday.

United have promotion in their own hands – win their last three games and they are up. But their form is so erratic it would be a brave person who put more than a modest stake on that outcome.

Of the four sides chasing the second automatic promotion place behind Norwich, Leeds have the hardest run-in against the 11th-placed Dons, Charlton (fifth) and Bristol Rovers, who are ninth and still hoping to make the play-offs.

One point back from Leeds are Millwall, who follow matches against Orient (18th) and Tranmere (21st) with a final match against fourth-placed Swindon.

As well as that big clash, Swindon take on Wycombe (22nd) and Brentford (tenth), while Charlton – only three points behind Leeds – face Exeter (20th) and Oldham (16th) as well as that home clash with United.

Just like the election debate, much will depend on who makes a mistake or fails to perform because of nerves.

Grayson needs to be a psychologist as much as a football coach from now on in.
