The prestigious Hawksworth Trophy, a 36-hole strokeplay competition for the leading amateur golfers throughout the north of England, is being held again at The Bradford Golf Club on Saturday.

The event is one of the major competitions throughout the season in the Yorkshire Order of Merit.

It attracts a top class field and has been a prominent feature in The Bradford Golf Club calendar for almost 40 years.

The 2009 competition was won by Roger Roper playing out of Wike Ridge Golf Club, with a two-round gross score of 139, three under par.

Roper is returning to defend his title this year.

This year’s field of 64 players includes five home club players, in Andy Bean, Richard Bond, Chris Dunn, Chris Goodison and current club champion Matthew Atter.

This year’s lowest handicapper entrant is Simon Coumbe from Pontefract & District Golf Club at +2.2.

Head professional Andrew Hall said: “We’re honoured to host the Hawksworth Trophy once again this year. It’s a fabulous and challenging competition, which attracts a top class field to our club.”
