Silsden 2 Formby 0
The Cobbydalers made a belated return to action following the adverse weather and bagged a welcome three-point maximum.
No one could predict just how Chris Reape’s men would respond to their first game since mid-December and the Reds rode their luck at times.
They had chances in the first quarter of the game but, with Joe Evans and Gary Scott pulling the strings in midfield, the visitors were posing problems.
Against the run of play the Cobbydalers broke the deadlock just before the hour.
A long through ball from Jamie Longley should have been dealt with by the Formby centre backs but Chris Simpson nipped in to score.
The goal boosted Silsden’s confidence and, though keeper Phil Rishton still had saves to make, the home side doubled their advantage late on. Right back Aqeeb Khalif hit a long pass up the flank that Formby’s Paul Williams overhit attempting a back-pass, allowing Silsden substitute Robert Bradley to walk the ball into the net.
