Guiseley are due to make a welcome return to league action tomorrow night at home to North Ferriby United after a stop-start fortnight that has seen them with two blank Saturdays.

The Lions are hoping their Nethermoor pitch is up to the task after the match between Guiseley’s FA Vase winning side and a former Leeds United XI on Sunday was cancelled due to waterlogging.

The hosts have not played in the league since November 14 when they lost 2-1 at Kendal but go into tonight’s game on the back of a 4-1 win at Ossett Town in the West Riding County Cup.

Lions’ spokesman Stuart Allen said: “Steve (manager Kittrick) played a strong side in the County Cup because he wanted the players to retain some match fitness.

“There were a couple of injuries, with Lee Tuck and Mark Bett taking knocks, but they have had time to recover.

“The trouble is not with injuries or match practice really.

“The last three games we have played were all cup games – the FA Trophy, the UniBond League Cup and then the West Riding County Cup – and we are getting behind with league games.”

A week last Saturday Guiseley were due to host King’s Lynn in the league but the fixture was postponed because of a High Court winding-up order on the Norfolk outfit. And they had to make do with a training session last weekend as no fixture was scheduled.

As a result, the Lions are now 11th but they have seven games in hand on leaders Retford United.

Farsley Celtic’s Blue Square North fixture at Fleetwood Town tomorrow night has been put back because their West Riding County Cup tie at home to FC Halifax Town takes precedence.

The match was twice a victim of the weather last week and has been rearranged for Wednesday.
