Tresor Kandol has been assured by Leeds manager Simon Grayson that he could have a future at the club after all.

Congolese striker Kandol, 28, spent last season on loan to Millwall and Charlton and his only start so far this term came in Tuesday night’s Johnstone’s Paint Trophy second-round win against Darlington.

Kandol had to miss the second half through illness but he scored his side’s second goal in the 28th minute and had seen two earlier headers well saved.

The former Barnet marksman was praised for his efforts by Grayson, who said: “Tres was a handful and buried his chance well.

“That was the first time I had seen him start a match for us. Unfortunately he had to stay off at half-time and was sick in the dressing room but I was pleased with his performance.

“He has kept his head down and worked hard in the reserves and in training. He is a contracted player so he will continue to be considered for selection.

“He and everyone else will be fighting for a place in our next match against Norwich a week on Monday.”
