Jermaine Beckford has picked up yet another award having been voted the PFA Fans’ Player of the Year for League One.

Beckford’s prolific season in front of goal, the best at Leeds since John Charles in 1957, has already brought him the club’s Player of the Year award and countless monthly prizes.

But while he and strike partner Luciano Becchio are always in the spotlight, coach Glynn Snodin pointed out that Leeds’ success in reaching the play-offs is as much down to the defence as the forwards.

Manager Simon Grayson has strengthened the defence since he took over from Gary McAllister, no least by drafting in Richard Naylor from Ipswich.

In the last 20 games of the season, Leeds kept 12 clean sheets, twice as many as they had in the first 35 matches.

Snodin said: “We keep talking about the goals we’ve scored and the skill in midfield but the back five have played their part too.

The full backs have been terrific, as have the three lads who’ve played centre back the goalkeeper.

“If your back five is keeping clean sheets, you can start to look at your midfield and push on from there."

Leeds have now sold out of tickets for the play-off semi-final home leg against Millwall.

They will have a crowd of just over 37,000, reduced from the ground capacity of 39,000 because of restrictions brought on by segregation.
