Former City striker Andy Cooke has hung up his boots after 16 years as a professional.

Cooke, 34, decided to call it quits after failing to find a league club during the summer following his release from Shrewsbury.

He trained with Kidderminster but was keen for one last crack at league football.

“I thought someone could have taken a bit of a chance on me and asked me to come and train with them,” said Cooke.

“But people looked at it and saw I was nearly 35 and I think they are going for a younger player policy.

“I’m still keeping fit and you never know if I got a phone call but I’ve put it to the back of my mind and I’ve got my life back.”
