Leeds midfielder Jonny Howson has agreed an improved contract designed to keep him at Elland Road until at least 2011.

Howson, 20, excelled last season and manager Gary McAllister said of the youngster’s decision to commit his future to the club: “We are all delighted.

“He is a player who has come through our Academy and is a local lad, which is a big plus.

“He has an eye for goal and has a nice mix to his game. I am pleased to have this opportunity to help his development.”

Meanwhile, Scunthorpe are keen to sign Tomi Ameobi, brother of Newcastle marksman Shola.

Leeds striker Ameobi, 19, had a spell on loan at Glanford Park last season but has been offered a new contract at Elland Road.
