Thackley were quick to name their new manager once the appointment was rubber-stamped and Billy Fox was unveiled soon after meeting the players in private today.

Fox was assistant boss at Northern Counties East Premier Division rivals Hallam last season and is currently working for Championship newcomers Doncaster Rovers, coaching with their Academy.

“I’m delighted to have been offered this position as the club have a lot of potential and I can’t wait to get started,” said the Sheffield-based UEFA B licence holder.

“I have met the players and will be encouraging them to stay on with us but I will also be bringing in a few new faces. The only thing that concerns me at this moment is the lack of pre-season friendlies.

“The club said they held off until they had made the appointment, so now that’s done I want the games confirmed. The ones they had in the pipeline are perfect; all realistic opponents that will give the players a test.”

Thackley have retained the services of Sean Regan, who was John Boyle’s assistant last season, and Fox will be bringing Nigel Ransome with him. The three will work together, which will help the new man settle in and maintain stability at the club.

“Sean is respected throughout the game and I’m glad he is staying on with us,” said Fox.

“Nigel is also a good coach and it was always the intention to have three of us. I think it is more professional and if ever there is one of us missing there will still be two in the dugout.

“When we are all available, Nigel will be travelling about checking on the opposition and generally scouting for players. I want us to have a professional outlook in every department and progress to the UniBond League.”
